Obama loss all traced to Alex Lockwood

A friend set up and sent me this link from Moveon.org

I actually saw an election lost by one vote, once. It was for a sabbatical election for a student officer, back in 1996, at Cardiff University. I can’t remember her name now, but the woman running for Athletic Union officer lost by one vote–and she forgot to vote. She ran out of the count room crying and saying “I’ll never forgive myself.” Two days later she was fine about it, by the way. Not sure how Obama would feel about it.

I was down in Cardiff over the weekend for its 125th Anniversary, and met the last and current editor for the newspaper I edited down there, Gair Rhydd, when I was a student. Amy and Ben talked through how they had carried out a 10-year retrospective of our work that year, on the meningitis outbreak that killed two students. I wish we had put together a similar video for meningitis, to send to people about looking out for their friends or telling the doctor of symptoms (one of the girls who died, Anne-Marie, went to the doctor but didn’t show him the rash on her legs). I still remember their names, those girls, and jumping out of the car on the way to the funeral because I knew, as an editor, I had not done enough, when asked explicitly, to cover the issues.

Anyway. This is a typical but clever and well put together, even funny (some arthritic pensioner calling me a m***** f**** for not voting) use of new media to campaign politically for the elections.
